Celebrating the life of

Michael Whitehead

May 29, 1964 - May 02, 2024

Michael Whitehead

Michael Whitehead, 59, passed away May 2, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones in Savannah, Georgia. Originally hailing from Appleton, Wisconsin, Michael's gypsy spirit and boundless creativity drew him to Nashville, Tennessee, where he honed his skills as a Master Stylist and successful business owner. It was in Nashville where fate intertwined his path with Billy, the love of his life. Michael was so smitten, that he bought a red Jeep Wrangler to impress Billy and the rest, as they say, is history. Together, they embarked on a life of adventure.

Their journey led them to St. John in the Virgin Islands, where they cultivated deep connections and a second family. Amidst the island's beauty, Michael found purpose in not only enhancing its allure through his artistry but also in fostering profound bonds with his adoring clientele. Returning stateside, they planted roots in Savannah, fulfilling their shared dream by founding Shine Salon.

Michael's magnetic charm drew people to him effortlessly. His warm smile and sincere embrace were always at the ready, accompanied by the unforgettable flavors of his homemade meals, each infused with his boundless love and care.

Among the highlights of his life was the joyous union with Billy on the blue water of St. John, surrounded by an abundance of love. Michael leaves behind his devoted husband, William Purvis, and cherished friends and family. Beyond his affection for people, Michael's compassion extended to animals in need. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests considering a donation to the St. John Animal Care Center in Michael's honor, a cause close to his heart.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Fox & Weeks Islands Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at the following link: https://www.stjohnanimalcarecenter.com/donate/

I was shocked to hear of Michael's passing. It hit me like a punch to the stomach. The world has lost a warm and beautiful spirit. I will miss his beautiful smile, delightful laugh and engulfing hugs. There's an empty place in my heart where Michael once stood. Sherri

I met Michael shortly after moving to Savannah six years ago. I immediately knew that we were going to be friends for the long haul. Michael was the brother that I never had, always kind and generous. Michael and Billy welcomed Dan and me into their lives and treated us like family. We celebrated each other's birthdays and special occasions. I considered it a privilege to be part of the Shine team for a little over two years. While Michael's passing has hit us hard, we thank our lucky stars that we had a chance to have Michael and Billy in our lives.
